Steam has compiled a “Best of” list for the most played games of 2019 on the platform. The list of the best players of 2019 is divided into four categories, 100,000 simultaneous players, 50,000 simultaneous players, 25,000 simultaneous players and 15,000 simultaneous players. A total of 12 games managed to connect at least 100,000 players at the same time. Steam has not counted random player spikes as a metric for this list. Some games may have reached the 100,000 player threshold, but this was not viable as players simply connected to a specific event or reward in the game.
Some of these games are obvious. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the most played battle royale games in the world, attracting thousands of players across multiple platforms. Halo: The Master Chief Collection contains some of the best FPS games of recent decades, including the coveted Halo 2. Dead Cells Brings The Legacy Update, Allowing Players To Explore All Previous Patches On Steam Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are blockbuster games on Steam and have been a cash cow for the plate -form since the early 2010s.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege continues to be a success for Ubisoft, which is essential due to their widely known problems with Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. Finally, Total War: Three Kingdoms and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice were massive games in their own right, released this year. Steam continues on a fantastic platform for PC gamers, and it will be interesting to know which of these games will hold onto player engagement and be among the top players of 2020.
